11th week of pregnancy – The final spurt of the first trimester

Welcome to the 11th week of pregnancy. This week marks the end of the first trimester, and you are already very close to your second trimester – a stage in which many expectant mothers experience relief from early symptoms. Your little bundle of joy is growing rapidly and will almost double in size over the next three weeks. You may notice that your bump is slowly becoming visible and your energy is returning.

In this phase, many expectant parents start planning their first baby purchases – whether it’s the pushchair or the first clothes. Have you already told those around you about your pregnancy? In our my junior® guide, you’ll find creative ideas for announcing the news.

Week 11 of pregnancy at a glance

Your baby

  • Size: 4–5 cm, weight approx. 9 g – comparable to a fig or lime.
  • The liver produces bile, the pancreas secretes insulin.
  • Heartbeat: 120–160 beats per minute – often visible and audible on ultrasound.
  • Eyes and ears migrate to their final position, umbilical cord supplies the baby with oxygen.

Your body

  • Morning sickness often subsides, energy returns.
  • Growing uterus presses on bladder → more frequent urge to urinate.
  • Increasing blood volume → more thirst & feelings of hunger.

Worth knowing

  • Sex is usually only reliably determinable in the second trimester (notification permitted from the end of week 12).
  • Sensitive skin → use mild, moisturising care.

Development of the baby in the 11th week of pregnancy

Your baby now measures 4–5 cm and weighs around 9 g. The liver is producing bile, the pancreas is producing insulin, and the heart is beating strongly. Eyes and ears are moving into place, the sexual characteristics are developing, but are not yet clearly recognisable. The lungs are formed, but will only become active after birth – until then, the umbilical cord provides your little one with everything they need.

Your body

Nausea often subsides, and you gain more energy. Your growing uterus may cause frequent urination, and increased blood volume can lead to thirst and a greater appetite. Pay attention to a balanced diet and drink enough water. Oral hygiene remains important to prevent gum problems.

Tips for week 11 of pregnancy

  • Patience during sex: Usually only reliably detectable in the second trimester.
  • Skincare: Use mild, moisturising products.
  • Planning: Organise baby purchases early.
