Important Information on the Disposal of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment and Batteries

Protecting our environment and responsibly handling natural resources are very important to us. Electrical and electronic equipment contains valuable resources that can be reused. At the same time, they may contain substances that should not be released into the environment.

Here you will find out how to correctly dispose of waste electrical equipment, batteries, and accumulators, and what return options are available to you.

What does the crossed-out wheelie bin symbol mean?

The symbol of the crossed-out wheelie bin indicates that an electrical or electronic device must not be disposed of with household or residual waste at the end of its life.

As the end user, you are obliged to dispose of waste electrical equipment separately from unsorted municipal waste. Disposal via the yellow bin is also not permitted.

Returning Waste Electrical Equipment at my junior®

As a distributor of electrical and electronic equipment, my junior® offers the legally provided options for the free return of old devices in household quantities.

The return option applicable to you depends on the size of the device and whether you are purchasing a new, comparable electrical device.

Return when Buying a New Electrical Device

If you purchase a new electrical device, you can return an old device with essentially the same functions free of charge.

If the new device is delivered to your home, the comparable old device can be handed over for collection under the applicable conditions.

Return of Small Electrical Appliances

Electrical devices with an outer dimension of no more than 25 centimetres can also be returned free of charge without the purchase of a new device under the legal requirements. The return is limited to three old devices per type of device.

Other Disposal Options

Defective or end-of-life electrical devices can also be disposed of free of charge at municipal collection points or recycling centres.

A list of suitable collection and return points can be found through public waste disposal services or an appropriate directory of return points.

If your device still works, it does not need to be disposed of. Passing it on or donating it may allow it to be used for a much longer time.

What Should You Consider Before Returning?

Before you return a waste electrical device, there are some important points you should consider.

Deleting Personal Data

You are responsible for removing personal data from the old device. Therefore, permanently delete all personal data before returning the device.

Remove Batteries and Accumulators

Remove batteries and accumulators from the device before returning it, if this is possible without causing damage. Then dispose of them separately at the designated collection points.

Safely Dispose of Lithium Batteries

Lithium batteries and lithium accumulators can pose a fire and safety risk if damaged or mishandled.

Cover any exposed contacts completely with tape before disposal. This reduces the risk of a short circuit. Even supposedly empty batteries can still contain residual energy and can overheat severely in the event of a short circuit.

Handle damaged, deformed or swollen batteries and accumulators with particular care and dispose of them immediately at a suitable collection point.

Remove Lamps and Light Bulbs

If your device contains lamps or light bulbs, please remove them before returning, if this can be done without causing damage. Dispose of them afterwards at the designated collection points.
