Week 10 of pregnancy – milestone in the first trimester

The 10th week of pregnancy is a significant moment: your baby is no longer an embryo, but a foetus and is starting to look more and more like a little human. The first trimester will soon be over and some exciting check-ups lie ahead – including the maternity record, in which growth, ultrasound images and laboratory values are documented.

With each passing day, the risk of miscarriage decreases while your baby grows rapidly. The tooth buds are forming, and your uterus can now be felt from the outside. It is also gradually becoming outwardly visible that you are carrying a little miracle inside you.

  • Size (SSL): approx. 2–3 cm, weight a few grams – comparable to a strawberry.
  • Organs continue to work, and the first bones and joints such as elbows and knees are forming.
  • Fingers and toes clearly recognisable, webbing recedes.
  • Brain grows rapidly, taste buds develop, first movements begin.

Your body

  • Uterus as large as a grapefruit.
  • Symptoms such as fatigue, malaise or skin sensitivity possible.
  • Shortness of breath due to increased oxygen demand is normal.

Development of the baby in the 10th week of pregnancy

Your baby now measures 2–3 cm (crown-rump length) and already looks quite human. The heart, organs, and joints are formed; nose, ears, eyes, fingers, and toes are clearly recognisable. Webbing is receding. The brain is receiving its first stimuli, and taste buds are developing on the tongue. Movements are already taking place, but cannot yet be felt.

Your body

The uterus is the size of a grapefruit. Some symptoms, such as nausea, persist, while others improve. Shortness of breath occurs because you need more oxygen. Your breasts change significantly – visible veins, darker nipples. First-time mothers often don’t yet show a bump, while women who have given birth before sometimes do.

Tips for week 10 of pregnancy

  • Nutrition: High in protein, plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, and whole grains.
  • Dental health: Schedule a preventive check-up.
  • Silence: Regular breaks and stress reduction.
