Your baby's safety is your highest priority. That is why parents usually opt for an especially safe infant car seat, for example Avionaut Pixel PRO 2.0 C The same naturally applies to child seats. Once a suitable infant carrier has been chosen, many parents then ask themselves the question: So where should my baby sit now to ensure maximum safety while travelling? Back seat or front passenger seat: Where is your baby safest?

Your baby is definitely safer on the back seat than on the front passenger seat. On this point, all experts are in agreement, including the ADACs in agreement. However, if you still wish to take your baby along in the front passenger seat of the car, there are a few points you need to bear in mind, which we will address again in more detail later on.

Which seat on the back row is best?

The rear middle seat is considered the safest place for your baby. Because it is the furthest from the doors and therefore from potential impact zones. For this, however, your car must have three full-sized rear seats. In many cars, however, the belt of the middle seat is not designed for a baby car seat, there is no way to install an Isofix base, or it is simply too narrow. In that case, the middle seat is not an option. The rear right seat (i.e. behind the front passenger) is also considered very safe according to statistics. Because in a head-on collision, this seat is the furthest away from oncoming traffic. However, many factors come into play in an accident. Therefore, it is not guaranteed that nothing will happen to your baby if they are seated in the right rear seat. According to statistics, however, this place is particularly safe.

Deactivate airbags

As a rule, rear-facing child seats or infant carriers must not be installed in cars with an active front passenger airbag. If this is not possible in your car, then the front passenger seat is absolutely not an option for your baby.

No objects on the dashboard

If your baby is sitting next to you during the car journey, there should be no objects on the dashboard. These can become dangerous projectiles in the event of an accident or heavy braking.
