Baby bottles
Plastic or glass
Baby bottles are available in plastic or glass. Most mums opt for plastic bottles.. The advantage: they are considerably lighter than glass bottles and shatterproof. The disadvantage is that they scratch easily and accordingly they are not quite as durable as glass bottles. But if your baby ever wants to hold the bottle on their own, they will find it easier with a lightweight plastic bottle.
How many?
On average, babies drink 6 bottles a day. Does your baby need more? Don’t worry. Every baby is different. So please don’t worry and speak to your midwife or your paediatrician if your baby is drinking significantly more or less. However, if you are faced with the decision, how many bottles You should have at home, we recommend 6 to 7. So it is enough to wash and sterilise the bottles once a day. This way, you will always have a sterile bottle ready when your little one gets hungry.

However, it won’t be long before your baby needs significantly more milk or pre-formula. Then you’ll need larger bottles anyway. So it makes sense to already to buy larger bottles from the outset. .
Latex or silicone teat
There are two different materials to choose from when it comes to teats for baby bottles. You can choose between Latex and silicone. Latex (brownish natural rubber) is hard-wearing, but becomes porous more quickly, especially when boiled. The transparent silicone is somewhat longer-lasting, but also harder. It's best to try out what works best for your baby. The size of the hole depends on your baby's age. Please note the Notes on the packaging. If a larger hole is needed, please buy new teats and do not use a needle to make a bigger hole.
Milk powder
There is milk powder from a wide variety of manufacturers at very different prices. What’s important is that you choose Pre-formula or HA Pre-formula decide. If you start giving your baby the bottle while still in hospital, you should use the same formula at home as well, provided your baby has tolerated it well.
Spittoon
Muslin cloths should be an essential item regardless. Your starter kit be. They are used for all sorts of things. When you give the bottle, especially in the beginning, your little one’s happiness can sometimes get a bit messy. Or it vomits after drinking something out again. Later, you can use the cloths as a scarf or something similar for your child. Many children also later declare these cloths to be comfort blankets.
Kettle
In theory, you can of course boil the water in a pot, but a kettle is much more practical. This way, it’s much quicker to bring the water to the boil. Here you don’t have to no particular kettle purchase. In fact, any standard kettle will do. However, there are now also kettles available with a fairly precise temperature display. This allows you to heat the water directly to drinking temperature.
Bottle warmer
There are numerous bottle warmers on the market. They sometimes have different functions. As a rule, bottle warmers are filled with a little water, which is then heated to a certain temperature. You can then place the bottle inside and its contents will be warmed or kept warm accordingly. Please note, Do not store any prepared bottle in the bottle warmer.. Many types of milk start to ferment after just one hour. In addition, bacteria that could be harmful to your baby may develop.
Steriliser
After washing the bottles, it is important to keep them sterile. For example, you can do this by boiling them in a pot. It’s quicker and easier with a steriliser. There are endless options available on the market. If you have space for another appliance in your kitchen, you can get a large steriliser. If you have a bit less space, a microwave steriliser is suitable. The advantage of sterilisers: if you keep the lid closed, the bottles remain sterile for 24 hours.
Bottle brush
To clean the bottles properly, you definitely need a bottle brush. It usually consists of two parts. A large brush for the bottle and a small one for the teat. There are also some with a small sponge at the end of the handle. These are particularly good for cleaning the bottom of the bottles.

Milk powder dispenser
The different bottle manufacturers also often offer milk powder dispensers. This is particularly practical for nighttime or when on the go. This way, you can fill the different containers with the appropriate amount of powder and you'll be much quicker when preparing the bottle while out and about. At night, you save yourself having to fill the bottle with the scoop. Especially at night, when you’re often tired, it’s easy to lose count.
Why You’re Not a Bad Mother If You Bottle-Feed
Once you have everything you need at home, you still need to prepare yourself for one more thing. Mothers who consciously choose to bottle-feed are often judged. In recent years, an unpleasant dynamic has developed here, especially on social media. In the end, however, the only thing that matters is that you feel comfortable with your decision. You will also be able to build just as close a bond with your child by bottle-feeding as mothers who breastfeed. A big advantage: your partner can also take over giving the bottle.
