After the birth of your little bundle of joy, your world is suddenly turned upside down. Everything is new and so incredibly beautiful and exciting. Then comes the big moment: You may take your baby home with you. That’s when the infant carrier will be used for the first time. Together you set off on your way home to a new life. Shortly after the birth, the Baby car seat, but still much too big for now. for your little happiness. That’s what the newborn insert is for.. It reduces the size of the baby seat so that your baby can be transported safely in it. Why a newborn insert for the infant car seat is so important and how long you should use it, reveals our my junior physiotherapist Jacky to you.
Why is a newborn insert for the baby car seat so important?
When your baby lies in the infant car seat for the first time, it is still very small. Just a few hours or days before being placed in the car seat for the first time, your baby was still in your womb, where it was cosy and quite snug. With a newborn insert, babies lie nice and snug again, just like in mummy’s tummy. This makes them feel especially comfortable. In addition, the insert serves as a neck and head support, ensuring that your little one is transported in an ergonomic position in the infant carrier.
Are you pregnant and looking for the right pram for you and your little one? From modern all-rounders to retro prams. In our Pushchair overview you will receive all the important information at a glance.
When should the newborn insert be removed from the infant car seat?
A precise time cannot be given here, as every baby develops differently. Some are as big and heavy after just a few weeks as others are only after a few months. That is completely normal. However, our my junior physiotherapist says that the Newborn insert is generally no longer needed after 3 months.

How can I tell that my baby no longer needs the newborn insert?
The prerequisite for removing the newborn insert is that your little one can hold his head up on his own for an extended period of time. Without the insert, your baby's spine should be slightly rounded and the legs should be in a squatting position. This is usually the case at around 3 months. However, it is also quite possible that your baby is big enough for this even earlier and the Neck muscles are already sufficiently stable by then. In addition, our my junior physiotherapist Jacky advises you to make sure that your little bundle of joy should have about two finger-widths of space at the side. This is important because, from an early age, we humans have a natural urge to move.
