Which care products do I need for my baby?

In the final weeks before the birth, the excitement keeps on rising. You’re probably wondering whether you have everything you need at home. Here, you will find out what absolutely must not be missing from your baby’s room. Now it’s time to fill up the cupboards and drawers. Ideally, nappies and care products should be ready before your little bundle of joy arrives. In the following article, you’ll find out what you really need at the beginning and what you can do without. Once again, our my junior midwife Sandra has shared her experience with us.

Wet wipes or washcloths?

Wet wipes are the best friends of many parents. Whether for nappy changing, cleaning hands, or wiping the table, they are simply practical. Many parents can no longer imagine life without wet wipes. However, our my junior midwife, Sandra, does not recommend wet wipes for newborns. Babies' little bottoms are especially sensitive at the beginning. That’s why you should clean your little one’s bottom with lukewarm water only, especially in the early days. It’s best to keep a small bowl and a thermos flask with lukewarm water on the changing table. This way, you’re always perfectly prepared. You can order small flannels online or buy them at the chemist’s. It’s best to buy as many flannels as possible, so you always have enough when the used ones are in the wash.

Which care products should I have at home for my baby?

Wound cream

Sooner or later, your baby will have a sore bottom. This is completely normal. It often happens when your little one is teething or unwell. There’s no need to worry. However, you should have a healing cream at home so that you can react if necessary. Our my junior midwife, Sandra, also recommends letting your baby lie on a blanket without a nappy for a while if they have a sore bottom. This allows air to get to the sore area and helps it to heal more quickly. Nevertheless, you should still apply cream to the sore spots. Our my junior midwife, Sandra, recommends the products from Weleda. The Calendula Nappy Change Cream from Weleda will quickly bring relief to your baby’s sore bottom. In general, you should make sure that the healing cream you choose does not contain any colourants, parabens or perfumes.

Care oil

Our my junior midwife Sandra recommends having a care oil at home for your little bundle of joy. Here, you should definitely make sure that the oil contains no perfume. The Calendula Care Oil Fragrance Free from Weleda is a good choice. It can be used in a variety of ways. It is suitable for skin care, cleaning and massaging your baby, and helps to prevent skin irritation and soreness.

Do I need additional care products for my baby in winter?

The skin of your little bundle of joy is very sensitive. The skin is still very thin and immature. This is why babies are particularly sensitive to cold and wind. Therefore, you should provide your baby's skin with plenty of fat and moisture during the winter. For example, you can use the Weleda Calendula Wind & Weather Balm here.
