You always want to protect your baby. That’s why, in summer, you try to avoid direct sunlight. Depending on the position of the sun, the standard canopy of the pram is not always sufficient. Some sunlight still shines directly onto the baby’s sensitive skin. That’s why many parents place a Muslin cloth or a blanket over the pram, so that no sunlight shines in directly. Why so Life-threatening danger for your baby we’ll tell you.
What happens if you cover the pram with a cloth or a blanket?
As soon as the pram is covered with a cloth or a blanket, The heat accumulates inside. The air can no longer circulate and the inside of the pram gets hotter and hotter. Temperatures can quickly Pushchair climb into a life-threatening range.
We have done the test. The pram was left in direct sunlight for our test, with an outside temperature of 26 degrees. After we covered it with a blanket, the temperatures inside rose very quickly. After just half an hour, we measured 37 degrees inside the pram. If a baby had been lying in the pram during our experiment, its life would have been at risk. Watch the full heat test on YouTube.
Why is heat particularly dangerous for babies?
Babies and toddlers are very sensitive to heat. and quickly suffer from heatstroke. They do not yet sweat like adults in order to regulate their body temperature themselves. Their sweat glands still need to develop. A quick and easy way to find out, whether your baby is too warm or too cold, is the Neck test or the two-finger trick. Place two fingers on the back of your baby’s neck. If it feels warm and damp, your baby is too hot. If the skin is very cold, it is probably too cold for your baby as well. If it feels comfortably warm, everything is fine with your baby.
How can you protect babies in prams from the heat?
If possible, you should avoid the blazing midday sun, when you are out and about with your baby. Instead of using a cloth or a blanket, use a sun sail or a Parasol. Our combination pushchair VIGO for example, comes directly to your home with a sunshade. This means you don't have to worry about air circulation inside the pram. Feel free to also use the Ventilation windows on our pushchairs.

Is it alright to point out the danger to other parents?
Step in if you see another mum or dad covering the pram with a cloth. However, do pay close attention to your tone of voice. Remember that this mum or dad only means well. Kindly point out the dangers to her or him. They will probably even be grateful to you.
